Job Description

Salary: $93,770 - 179,240 per year Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement may be accepted in place of a degree, or an approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT), or eFIT (Employees for IT).
  • A minimum of 4 years in software development, showcasing a solid technical understanding within specific disciplines/technologies.
  • At least 2 years of experience providing technology solutions throughout all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle, including leading code/design reviews.
  • Basic knowledge in one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python.
  • Developing understanding of business operations, risk management, industry practices, and emerging trends.
  • Experience addressing production issues through application and systems troubleshooting.
  • Capability to articulate technical challenges and solutions.
  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, code, and test complex technological solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve intricate application and system problems as well as production issues using effective troubleshooting techniques.
  • Continuously enhance operations by performing complex systems analysis and suggesting changes in policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and implement complex solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming requirements.
  • Adhere to the software development lifecycle.
  • Engage in design reviews and gain insights into key system design principles.
  • Mentor junior engineers and may start mentoring peer engineers; review teammates' code.
  • Ensure that risks associated with business activities are properly identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

We are looking for a dedicated Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our Mainframe Utilities and zDevOps team within the Platform Infrastructure group. In this crucial role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the high availability of Mainframe applications while enhancing the productivity of our Mainframe developers. You will contribute to the support and improvement of Mainframe Utilities and be involved in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for Mainframe.

This role requires close collaboration with business, product management, and IT partners across USAA. We offer a flexible work environment, expecting individuals to be present in the office 4 days each week, with potential work locations including San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; or Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately, relocation assistance is not available for this position.
