Job Description

Salary: $93,770 - 179,240 per year Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can substitute for a degree OR an approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT), or eFIT (Employees for IT)
  • 4 years of software development experience showing in-depth technical expertise within specific disciplines/technologies
  • 2 years of experience delivering technology solutions during all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle, including leading code/design reviews
  • Basic understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python
  • Developing level of discernment in business operations, risk management, industry practices, and emerging trends
  • Experience addressing production issues through troubleshooting applications and systems
  • Ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions
  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, code, and test intricate technical solutions
  • Investigate and resolve complex application and system issues, as well as production problems using troubleshooting techniques
  • Continuously enhance operations by performing complex systems analysis and recommending modifications in policies and procedures
  • Prepare and install intricate solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming
  • Follow the software development lifecycle and participate in design reviews while learning essential system design principles
  • Mentor junior engineers and may begin guiding peer engineers; review team members' code
  • Ensure risks related to business activities are effectively identified, evaluated, monitored, and controlled in line with risk and compliance policies and procedures

We are looking for a dedicated Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our Mainframe Utilities and zDevOps team within the Platform Infrastructure group. In this position, your role will be crucial in maintaining the high availability of Mainframe applications and improving the productivity of our Mainframe developers. You will assist in refining and enhancing Mainframe Utilities and building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for Mainframe applications. This role requires close collaboration with business, product management, and IT partners across USAA. We offer a flexible work environment, typically requiring an in-office presence 4 days a week, with positions available in San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; or Charlotte, NC. Note that relocation assistance is not available for this role.
