Senior Estimator

Location: Boston/Connecticut

Position Summary:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for the accurate takeoff and pricing of all work, including direct and indirect costs for heavy civil, roadway, bridge, and marine projects. This role involves leading the estimating team, managing pre-bid schedules, coordinating with subcontractors and vendors, and working closely with leadership throughout bid preparation and closeout.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and actively promote all safety policies and procedures, including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near-misses to ensure a strong safety culture.
  • Oversee and assist with the takeoff and pricing of all cost items associated with assigned projects, ensuring full compliance with established processes and procedures.
  • Verify that all bid documents reflect the latest addenda and modifications.
  • Direct and support estimating team members throughout the bid process.
  • Manage preparation of the pre-bid schedule and ensure timely completion.
  • Secure comprehensive subcontractor and vendor coverage for each bid, with particular attention to DBE participation requirements.
  • Recommend and coordinate any pre-bid testing or analysis that enhances bid accuracy.
  • Maintain the integrity of all bid files and ensure accuracy in documentation and processes.
  • Confirm that labor rates, bond rates, insurance, and other project-specific information within estimating software are properly established and maintained.
  • Collaborate with estimating leadership and staff through bid submission.
  • Contribute to project budget preparation, DBE documentation, and turnover meetings for awarded projects.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with HCSS or similar estimating software is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering , Construction Management , or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in complex highway, piling, bridge, or marine construction.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory estimating role managing bids over $50 million .
  • Minimum of 2 years of design/build experience with large public heavy civil projects.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with digital takeoff and/or design programs.
  • Proven ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
